CA77 front brake hub

Post by Maloymerc » Wed Mar 14, 2007 3:43 am

Can someone show me an up-close picture of what the stopper or lock that holds the brake cable at the front hub?(the one attached or welded to the hub itself)

Mine was broken off and i need to weld a new one in place before restoring the hub...thanks. Marlon

Had the same problem on my CB77. Ground it down to a flat square base and welded on a cube of aluminum with the hole and slot already drilled through it. Finished it off with a set of files and now you can't tell that it was ever broken.

I am sure you did a very clean install, but are you sure you can trust a weld in this application. There is a lot of force applied to the bracket under hard braking...

Absolutely. In fact it should be stronger than the original casting when correctly welded.

I do allot of aluminum welding here at the shop and in the case of the brake cable bracket I would Tig it and I know it would be strong BUT that being said I would still advise any of my customers to go get a good used part. I just don't like taking a risk for the sake of a few bucks and ones safety. Paul

Thanks for the pictures Paul! It's exactly what I need.
I guess it is alawys better off to get a replacement for this, but considering the scarcity of parts here, i guess i would have to follow what Piecutter has done.
