Center Stand Problems et al.

Shouldn't be possible to lose those??? The shoulder bolts go through the center stand from the inside. The shoulder bears on the frame, the threaded portion goes through the hole in the frame to the outside of the frame where a nut and cotter pin secures them. You should be able to tighten them up and the centerstand should move freely. If not, then something is wrong. The shoulder on the bolt should be slightly longer than the hole in the centerstand, providing some clearance. Its when the nut gets loose that the threaded part starts to enlarge the hole. The diagram in the parts book doesn't show this clearly at all. Let me know if you need a better picture. Calling it a night...

Mine were worn too. If the bolts are not tightened properly then they become loose in the frame and start to move as the bike is put on-off the stand. I welded mine up and re-drilled.

The bots should be tight in the frame but should allow the stand to rotate freely on the plain shank of the shoulder.

Thanks for the encouragement, but really? Consistent problems? I get that old bikes need more attention, I don't mind that. My 1967 S90 for example; I've put 7,000 miles on it and the only thing that ever broke on its own from riding or vibration (regular use) was the plastic chain guard. Sure I had to tune the thing regularly and set the timing all the time; lube parts, etc, but that's to be expected. It seems like all kinds of stuff is cracking and rattling apart on this bike. Do all cb77s break apart like this? Will I ever be able to take one on a long trip without center stands breaking, mufflers disintegrating, foot peg mounts cracking apart, etc? Should I get it back to decent shape and sell it?

I expect to maintain a bike and keep it well-tuned, replace cables, tires, maybe the occasional float; but having to consistently replace rare parts like foot peg mounts, mufflers that break apart from basic, day-to-day use is just expensive! Reason I ask, is this bike looked great when I got it, and I believe the owner was honest when he said "I believe it can go anywhere." But I've only put like 800 miles on the thing, and it's been deteriorating so quickly. It's quite discouraging, to my wallet, if anything. Ok, end of my rant.

Had a better look at the center stand holes today. They haven't enlarged too much at all. I tightened down the bolts a lot harder and lubed up the pivot point with some oil. Is tight and moves freely now. I'll simply keep an eye on it from now on.
