Hello,
I must be missing something here, but is there another way to adjust the rear brake other than the mechanism above the foot lever? I tried messing with the mechanism on the wheel hub but it didn't seem to adjust quite right there. Can someone clue me into where I'm missing this? I figure there must be a way, every drum brake system I've seen has an adjustment at the brake lever and the wheel hub.

Re: Rear Brake AdjustmentYou can adjust in at least three places, maybe four. The cable at the lever, the cable at the rear hub, and by repositioning the lever at the rear hub. Keep in mind that you'll probably have to adjust the brake light switch afterwards if you adjust the brakes significantly.
Sounds like you could use an owners manual. Best $25 you can put toward your bike and you can keep it in your tool box between your air cleaner covers.

I just went through this on my CA77 Dream after I had the rear wheel (to have it trued) and both side covers (to replace the clutch and reinstall that stupid clutch rod that came out the left side on accident) off. I backed off the adjusting nut at the end of the cable at the rear hub, and then spun cable adjuster screw at the lever all the way in, basically giving the cable all the slack it wanted. Then, I repositioned the brake lever at the hub to almost (maybe a tooth or two) be engaging the shoes to the drum, but not quite, AND be as close to the adjusting nut as possible. At that point, a few turns of the nut at the rear of the cable was all that was required to take up the proper amount of slack in the cable and I was done. I basically left the handlebar lever fully turned in so there is plenty of adjustment travel left there when I might need to adjust again down the road.

Superhawk correct? Might suggest checking the alignment of the cams and levers. There is a dimple on the end of the cam shafts and the levers which should be in align. Also check the return spring for correct position as it is possible to install backwards on the wrong lever. If your out of ajustment at the foot lever and everthing is assembled correctly I would suggest inspecting the shoes and cable length. The return spring should be on the rear lever. 65' CB160 I think I figured it out. I aligned the arms on the dimples, like suggested. Then I tried something different with the adjuster bolt (the one that screws into both lever arms on the rear wheel hub). I screwed the adjuster bolt all the way in on each arm then installed them on their respective cams on the hub. Then I adjusted the cable out at the foot lever until the desired tension was achieved. It seems to work smoothly and brake well, but is this correct?
