Dummy needs help

Post by Wood470 » Fri Apr 13, 2012 8:46 pm

I bought a 1966 honda305 scrambler on eBay and I am not sure about the key positions, all the way left seems off straight up for daylite run and all the right for nite lights? I can t get the head lite to come on. There is a 3position switch on top of the headlight that doesn't do anything and there is a slide switch at the left hand grip that goes up and down. It would really help if I know what switch s operate what. Choke seems like choke closed is up. Any help will be greatly appreciated

First, go get yourself a manual. They are available on line and I think there is one posted here somewhere. I know I found all of mine on-line.

The key switch is all the way to the left (CCW) is OFF. Then 1 click CW is on. In this position the switch on the headlight should turn the lights on. For headlight switch, Center is off, CCW (left) is just the tail light (I think, never use it) and CW (right) from center is on, head and tail lights.

The third key switch position CW (right) is park and turns on the tail light. Engine is off in that position.

The slider switch on the left control is hi/lo beam. Normally up is low and down is high. Yeah, seems backwards but that's the way the early Hondas were wired from what I've seen.

regards,
Rob

Please put a location in your profile. You'll get more and quicker responses if you do. It's sort of an unspoken rule here.

The manual also has a diagram that shows the contact condition for the various switch positions. I'm talking about the CL72 manual. Not sure there is a CL77 manual.

regards,
Rob
