What year might it be?

Post by Rickytic » Sat Apr 14, 2012 11:11 am

Good morning Forum friends,
I am in the process of purchasing a CL77, and am wondering what year it might be. Engine # is CL77E-1039439. The bike has chrome fenders. Any help is certainly appreciated...

The numbers show a 1966 issue and the bike wasn't issued by HONDA with chrome fenders. ..........lm

Thanks IM, I thought it was a 66, but not sure. I also didn't think the fenders were right. I have heard that some of the CL77's had chrome fenders but not sure of the year. Looks like I might have to trade the fenders out when it comes time to make it right. Hope someone out there will have a need for the fenders. I really wanted painted fenders, as my first bike back in the sixties had the painted fenders.

Any extra holes in the fender under the tail light? The chrome fendered bikes all had the later style tail lights w/different mounting.

Don't know yet, have not actually taken delivery on the bike. I am buying site unseen. It should be delivered from the San Francisco Bay area at the end of the month. When I get it, I will know more as to exactly what I have. From all the pictures, it appears not to have extra holes, and I think it has the small tail light. If that's the case, I just might have the chrome stripped and then I will paint the fenders. Guess I will just have to wait to see. In the pictures, I do see a seamed tank, late model foot pegs, no mirrors, chrome is great, and everything else appears to be there, and it is in running condition. Owner says it ran when he stored it in a temperature controlled storage unit, with fresh oil, no gas etc. I really think it is a bike that can be brought back to show room condition. The first thing I am going to do is clean it, and drive it to the local Harley Davidson Saturday BBQ.

Thanks for the response, and am looking forward to getting most of my questions answered on the forum. I also feel lucky that I live in the San Diego area and have a couple of people living here that are Honda Friendly, such as Bill Silver and Bill Shipman.
