The Superhawk from hell...New genuine Honda needles, needle jets, and floats.
New slow jets, screws, gaskets, and valves. Redid the float height and checked three ways - Ed line of sight, Honda float gauge, and calipers. Cleaned the carbs again, and still the bike will not idle without the slide screws turned in good ways. It essentially only idles on the mains. The idle circuit just does seem to be working. I have trace down all the passages related to the idle jet, and they are all clean and clear. I can't believe this cab was designed so that it wouldn't idle unless the main slides were lifted a far ways. Something else is wrong.
How many miles did that motor go to result in that much play.
13,000 on the clock attached, but I suspect this is a Frankenbike.
Compression is at 145, without any obvious sign its ever been rebuilt. I have a cam sproket from another bike with reported 7k on it that has one of two springs loose, and a spare head with reported 16k that has both springs even looser than mine. Seems like a serious weakness. On 70s CBs, the springs can be changed without pulling the engine. Gee, I wonder why they did that :)
Are new springs easy to get?
