Hi,

Well, the title says it all, I got no idea, anyone ?
It came from an engine with engine number 1000XX, but don't know if original or not.

Jensen,

Numbers indicate a '64. I have never seen a cover like that.

Hi Dave,

Sorry, my eyes , it is engine number 1100XX, a very early '61 engine.
This is the only cover I have looking like this, I'm not sure why it's there and if it is original or not, the extra part isn't magnetic, so aluminium it is.

First I thought is was a grinded down screw, but an aluminium screw doesn't make sense to me.

Jensen

It looks like some kind of repair to me but I cannot think why that part of the case would need repairing...

I'll have a look at my 1960 Dream motors to see if there are any clues.

I like this question.
The mark is at the same location for all covers and I wonder if when ya remove the adjuster ya may find it's merely a cast edge in the cover. .......lm

I have several 61 engines sitting here on hand and none have that (insert?) on the cover. I would think some kind of repair, pics of the inside would help.
