CL77 Front Forks need rebuilding

Post by Dickj » Sun Mar 04, 2012 10:14 pm

I need help finding fork parts for my 1966 305 Scrambler CL77 # 1039146

I am told I need "Type 1" and someone else told me "Type 2". Hopefully the Serial number will let us know for sure.

I am told I need to replace almost everything in both shocks including the inner fork tubes which are pricey. (Just under $400). Also the O Rings, front dampners, Ring fronts and piston stoppers, etc.

I was told to try to get replacement shocks but I don't know if that is a reality. Those seem to be part# 51400-273-010S and #51500-273-09105. Are these even available??

Any ideas on where I might find this stuff? Thanks Dick J. Santa Rosa, CA[/u]

Dick,

I would try to find a good used complete fork, and start over from there. Your 66 should be type 2 forks. The type 2s have aluminum lowers, the type 1s are steel.

Here's a set on Ebay.

Dick

I was lucky enough to get the last set of NOS forks from David Silver for my 'best' CL77.

There are companies in the UK that will rebuild your existing fork tubes with hard chrome and re-grind them.

I made my own bushes for my CL77 out of bronze rather than the aluminium ones that Honda supplied. All of the other parts do not really wear.
