Need Somebody to Work on my Scrambler

Post by KJB » Sat Feb 18, 2012 8:41 am

Okay guys, help me out here. I have a 67 Scrambler that is a nice bike but I’m having a problem with starting and running. It seems like it might be a fuel starvation problem. I’m not a bike mechanic and I’m certainly willing to pay somebody else to do the work. I contacted a place that is a few hours from me that says they specialize in classic Hondas. Below is what I was told. I’m not trying to beat anybody out of anything but does what he says below and the price range sound reasonable? I have nothing to compare it to. Thank you.

I'm not sure what has already been done to the bike but my general once over would be to fit new points, plugs and possibly plug caps Adjust the valves. Set the timing and clean and adjust the carbs. Make sure all the jets are the correct size etc. Possibly line the tank if its on the rusty side. Check out the petcock to make sure that was flowing correctly. Check the bike over such as sprockets, cables, spokes etc. Again kind of a guess here but I would say $200 to $300 plus parts.

morning k: I think that is a reasonable price. You say you are not a bike mechanic so I assume you don't have the tools, spec books etc. available to you. These old girls can get expensive to retore.... Just my two cents. Have a good one mike

I had to take time to update this thread. When I made my original post I didn’t realize the guy who gave me the quote for service was a member of this forum. That’s okay though. I didn’t know him and he didn’t know me. I did take my bike to him at Scrambler Cycle in Cameron, WI which is a 400-mile roundtrip for me. He did several service procedures and has my CL-77 running smooth. His prices are more than reasonable and his service and communication with the customer are great. I don’t have his permission to make this testimonial so I hope he doesn’t mind. I just feel it is important to give credit where credit is due. He is Hahnda on this forum and his website is http://www.scramblercycle.com/index.html I wish he was closer for me but I know where I’ll take my bike for any needed service from now on.

Thanks Keith! Have fun with the Scrambler. The best thing you can do for the bike is ride it.

Any questions, just let me know.

Great Info

Post by Impala » Thu Jul 26, 2012 5:57 am

This is great info to have. This last winter I was looking for someone to take my Ural to. I ended up going somewhere closer due to the distance. BIG mistake! I ended up with a $700 repair bill +parts and a Ural that still doesn't work.

I am new to the forum with my recently aquired 1965 CL77 that needs some love. Now I know where I can take them both if I need to. Will make the drive worth it!

Hey Impala,

By chance did I talk to you about a year ago on fixing that Ural? I know I talked to someone near Madison about working on an older Ural.

I know I'm a bit of a drive from you but if you are still having problems with the Ural or you need some help with the CL77, just give me a call or send me an email.

thanks,
Kevin
