Brakes and Drums

Post by kenkah » Mon Feb 06, 2012 10:05 pm

I started breaking my Honda Dream CA77 down as I plan to rebuild the bike. I have know idea how old the brakes so I thought I'd look into it. I noticed the shoes and the drums have some rust on them so I started looking around on the site for info and I had a few questions.

I've seem some posts about changing the brake linings and having new linings put on them. This made sense to me considering that new old stock would be some pretty old brakes before you even use them. But my question is are there new brake shoes available for the old Hondas. In particular Honda CA77. I did find a machine shop that isn't to far from me who does do the brake I'm just wondering out of curiosity.

Also in reading about the brake shoes I haven't really come across to much information as to the drums. Can they be cleaned or re-cut,? If so any ideas on where to look to have this done or is this something most bike repair shops can do?
