LED Headlight BulbGreat work! The test I wanted to see was what it looked like at a distance and you demonstrated that with the door open and lighting up that wall outside. I would say that at the very least, you get the same penetration into the darkness as you would with a stock lamp and suspect you get more with this LED set up. The broader spread is nice, too. I've hit a deer at night and you cannot have too much light on the sides of the road.
I need to read thru your thread again to see if all the info is there to build one of these some day. I like this upgrade versus installing the aftermarket alternator. I would think that your light will be even brighter with the engine running. I guess that depends on your regulator. This would make a great how-to article at some point when you have a little spare time on your hands. Nice work. regards, Rob
Thanks, Rob!
I will definitely make a little how-to and leave it open to other users' improvements. Nobody ever gets something right in prototype. One improvement I might eventually make myself is make a new light using the 1000mA driver and an even more efficient heat sink. These LEDs are rated at well over 2000lumen at that current. I'm impressed enough with the current heat sink that it wouldn't be a stretch to use that driver with the existing headlight. Anyway, more updates soon.
So I know it's a bit redundant in the same end of the forum, but here is the link to the LED headlight How-To thread:
