Wiring issues

Post by bonsaibill » Fri Jan 13, 2012 11:20 pm

The mice have eaten almost all the wiring on my 65 dream. The wires coming out of the condenser and the points have some kind of cover on them. I think it is to shield them from the heat of the engine. can I buy these shields? Also where do the two wires from the condenser go?

Condenser wires

Post by Eljeef » Fri Jan 13, 2012 11:47 pm

Hi. Yes those woven covers are heat shields for those wires. I think you can get them at an electrical supply place for stoves and ovens. I remember reading here that someone found them somewhere. One of the wires goes to the coil I believe and the other goes to ...ah rats, I can't remember. Someone will chime in or do a search for Dream wiring diagram and you can follow the routing there. Regards, Jeff.

Boy, I must've been really tired when I wrote this. The other wire from the condensor goes to the points. ;)

I looked all over for the tubing you are talking about. It is glass tubine and is snow white when new. It is a heat shield for the wiring and my understanding is when you buy a new condenser pack, it comes on the wire.

The Dream is a 360 engine, right? That means only one set of points. So you can get the tubing from Beatrice Cycles, also known as DRATV on the web. He sells it for S90 and similar singles and I bought a length from him knowing it would be tight as S90 has only one wire running thru it and my CL77 has two. I made a mandrel out of a piece of rod and slowly was able to expand the weave to accept the dual wires for a CL77 set up. It will expand like a chinese fingercuff, if you know what that is. Tight but worked.

Here's the link for Beatrice. http://www.dratv.com/info.html

regards,
Rob
