Kick starter Cover Questions

Post by NBD925 » Sun Jan 08, 2012 12:50 am

I am about to put all the components on my Kick Starter Side Cover. As I looked at the parts book and the parts I have, questions came up.

1. Where is Seal#23 in the parts book? PN 91205-200-000? The size of the Oil Seal is 2226298 in the book. Does this seal come with the oil seal kit? The Kit I got came with 9 seals I believe from “Classic Honda Restoration.” None of them match this size. This seal goes between the clutch lifter thread and the clutch adjuster.

2. There are 2 washers called for . . . 6mm Plain. I can see where the first one goes but does the second one fit on the bolt head side or the cover side of the Kick Starter Return Spring? The picture in the parts diagram seems to show the Cover side of the spring but I think it makes more sense placed on the bolt head side keeping it from pulling through the Return Spring hook.

3. There is a seal in this kit that I cannot figure out a home for. The numbers on the seal read . . . (2179 20 29 8 1 NE) This is how they read around the seal. It’s mostly a metal seal with a wiper in the middle. Where does this go. I have a 62 Dream I'm doing. Does this apply or not?

Here is a picture of the parts on the bench.

Thanks for adding location! The washer goes between the spring and cover, the other on the outside of the case. The seal with the metal trim is for the clutch lifter. As Ed pointed out, the parts you show are for CBs, not CAs

I am realy confused.

Thanks for adding location!
What does this mean?

What parts in the picture are for the CB? They all seem to match the CA parts book. Every one of them looks to me, to be the same as the CA parts diagram.

Why does the metal ringed seal not match any of the numbers in the parts book?

Thanks for the help guys. I hope not too many of my parts shown are CB parts or the wrong parts.

Danged if ya don't show Dream parts.
The 3rd hole seen from this side is confusing for sure.
When I see the threaded holes for the rotor cover I can tell for sure.
The metal ringed seal will only fit one place.
Take a good look at it's construction and ya will see what it fits............lm

Man I was getting worried because I picked this cover up on ebay and they said it was a CA77 part.

You may wonder why I am putting this late model Kick Starter Cover on a 1962 Early Dream. I am going with the 90 degree clutch joint and the shorter late clutch cable. You can see in the picture I did also change the Clutch Lever Spring to the shorter one for the late cover.

That metal ringed seal just confused me because of the numbers. They did not match the book.

I think this should work but not completely sure.

At times ya need to look at the whole picture to see what fits what.
Who took the parts off the other case?
I must chuckle as ya now have the case upside down.
I hope ya aren't one of those who have exorcised the heck out of this list. .........lm
