Sticking throttle slide

Post by Benha » Mon Dec 12, 2011 6:29 pm

I have had the carb apart many times now and as soon as I start it up and open up the throttle one slide sticks. I've tried polishing the slide and the inside of the carb but no luck. It moves super smooth when it's put together. But if you run it then it sticks. Not sure if the heat is doing somthing but it's not real hot when first started. Any thoughts.
Oh right and this is on a 67 cl77.

Sticking

Ben, are you possibly over tightening the carb? This will distort the carb body and cause sticking.............................D

Which part could be over tightened? That does make sense.

The two nuts that hold the carb body to the cylinder head. If overtightened, the carb body warps and the slide sticks.

Sticking slide problem fixed

Post by 79vetteguy » Fri Dec 30, 2011 11:01 pm

I was experiencing sticking slides in both carbs on a 1968 Super Hawk CB77 that I recently purchased. I tried loosening the nuts holding the carbs to the head and now both slides are working fine--no sticking. Thanks for this great tip--I was considering replacement carbs until now.

Mine did the same thing on the Dream I'm working on. I replaced the cable and the slide kept jamming. As soon as I took some tension off the two bolts, it snapped closed and worked fine. Now they're just snugged up enough to seal and it works well.
