1967 CL77 Rear Fender Needed

Post by KJB » Tue Oct 11, 2011 5:20 pm

I need a rear fender for my 1967 CL77. There is one on eBay but the seller isn't sure if it is from a 65, 66 or 67. Are the rear fenders different from these years?

The later 67s had chrome fenders, otherwise they are the same!

Not to argue, but there is a mounting difference depending on the vintage. After 1033482 the fender and rear grab rail were rubber mounted. So the hole in the fender for the rear bolt is larger. Might even have affected the bracket welded to the fender, but never made an actual comparison, myself.

The chrome fender cut in at 1056274 so that would tell me that the chrome were all rubber mounted and the painted fenders came in both versions.

I also noticed an interim painted fender that was used from 1043098 to 1056273. It is in the rubber mounted range. Difference might be tail light holes (guessing at that) or possibly minor shape change.

regards,
Rob

Yes, you are correct! The 67s use a different tail light, the bolts, so a different bolt pattern. The grab rail is different as well betwwen the rubber and non-rubber mounted fenders. The give away for the 67 would be the tail light bracket holes in the fender! I have a decent chrome 67 fender, that could be de-chromed and painted. PM me if you're interested .

Thanks for the info guys. Guess I'll pass on this one since I can't be sure if it will fit. I have frame #CL77-1042176 and a silver fender. My rear fender is bobbed but the person who did that cut it straight across. I may just round the edges for now to make it look a little better.

chrome fenders

Post by Larry G » Thu Mar 22, 2012 1:17 am

I bought a 65 CL77 i think its a 65 the # is 100476D I have others tell me they think its a 65 because of the single front brake, my question is both fenders and chain guard is chrome, all the others i see on line are painted silver? any ideas? are they not OEM or was that an option in 65? I have never seen a chrome chain guard before. also does anyone know if the 65 chain guard shoild be solid or have the vents cutut on the sides? mine is solid.

any help would be great.
Thanks, Larry

Larry,

A previous owner had the parts chromed,a popular "upgrade" back in the day. The 65's had a slotted chain guard. Tim McDowell sells a nice repro of the 65 chain guard. Post some pics when you get a chance.
