I do reuse the crank bearings if after cleaning they are good.
I even clean them with round glass beads. .............lm

I know for a fact you guys are not tearing down these engines and putting them back togeher with old bearings, nope don't believe it for one minute especially you lm. I called TimMcDowell he said sorry, I got part numbers coming from fiches and BillSilver's book and I just am not sure where and what to buy. Just like the link OldStan sent me, I too have the

NACHI 6306S6HS / NACHI 6206S7HS
I think the Honda#s are 91001-259-020 / 91002-259-010

off to google I go again.

Thanks lm, never thought of bead blasting bearings. I am sure you are correct and I would be willing to bet there has been many of perfectly good bearings thrown away by people just like me. Mostly just a a precaution hate to have one go bad after doing all that work. After all I am leaving the center bearings and rod bearings alone.

lm, Since I have your attention I have read where you say the CA77 pistons will give me a little more compression than the CLs. I found a set on Ebay but in the description they mention they won't work on the CLs. If I go to the machine shop that is going to bore it and tell him I want 61 CA77 pistons will I be good, or are these reproduction pistons going to be so close it would be like spliting hairs? I guess I should find out where he is getting his pistons.

They can be used in the CB/CL77 engines and do raise the compression a bit.
I'm not sure about the 61 pistons?????????. .......lm

Pistons

Post by Mike2cl77 » Fri Sep 09, 2011 9:57 pm

Thanks guys for all the input and I have now got all the bearings for the motor and trans. However the search for postons is still on. I have become quite good with the Honda numbering system and can find several 1310?-266 pistons but the 1310?-275 piston seems to be a little hard to find. The 266 being for the CA and the 275 for the CA, CB, CL.

So lm I look to you for a suggestion on the proper piston for the increased compression.

I still see those big domed pistons on Ebay and have read a thread on here on some extra work that needed to be done to make them right. Not too much, so it has got me thinking again on the high compression. He is claiming 10:1 or something similar. Can anyone tell me if that is going to be too high for todays pump gas. The price on these pistons are more atractive then the NOS ones I am finding, but I don't want to cheap out at this point.

Mike
