stud??

Post by bsa lover » Mon Aug 15, 2011 1:04 am

after pulling apart my 250 with 305 top end, I see that one of the oil feed studs has a shoulder at the top that my 250 cl72 doesnt have, its about 1"long on the last part of the stud at the top just before the threads, was this for some type of oil restriction that the 305 engine needed??

He's asking about the waisted studs which is not the same as the wasted studs after the bars close....

Most of the barrel/head studs are a straight 8mm and the front outer pair are reduced in diameter except for a short length where they are back to 8mm.

I always assumed that Honda Waisted the studs to reduce weight but it could be to allow oil to pass up those stud holes.

Turns out the stud is reversed and the shoulder that is down toward the case has beem put up towards the top and machined down to allow oil to the head, and at the same increase oil flow to the bottom end, its a guess on my part but its the only thing that makes since looking at it
