1966 Scrambler with B serial number?

Post by Rock160 » Thu Aug 04, 2011 7:44 pm

I've always known this bike as a Honda Scrambler, that's what Grandpa called it, but it does not have a CL serial number, instead it is a B160 serial number.

What have I got? It's not a Dream since headlight is round and fender is painted.

High pipes on left side, skid plate under engine, handle bar has a cross bar on it, black/silver with chrome tank and black knee bumpers, chrome rear rack, fenders and side covers are silver paint, serial number starts with B1601049***

Question: Is this properly a Scrambler, or something else?

Photo to come later.

Thanks for putting the new guy on the right track.

Possibly a CB with high pipes? Maybe someone can confirm that a CL Vin would begin with L? As my 160 also begin with B_____ with no C prefix. That's my best guess at this point.

I had one of these back in high school. Honda was selling every scrambler they could throw togeather. Seems no one wanted no stinking CB160's scramblers were the rage. Sooo Honda had scrambler kits for the CB modles, handle bars upswep pipes and tanks. Sooo what you got was a CL160 with an electric starter. Sold as CB160D scramblers. Yours still has the CB style tank.

Yup,

Somewhere on the web is a write-up about the 160 scramblers. They made them officially as a separate model for 2 years I believe. I had one that I sold this summer. Then rather than continue to make a sepate model, the produced a kit for dealers that converted CB160's to Scramblers. My guess is the dealer had another purpose for the tank in the kit (maybe sold as a replacement part to somebody to wrecked) and put the remaining bits on this bike.

If you go to the CB175 forum I think you'll find out more. That site also includes the 160.

regards,
Rob
