Post by ironsights85 » Mon Jul 18, 2011 11:11 pm

iv got the engine and frame numbers CB77E-1051878 and CB77-1051840 respectively. I've looked over the bike extensively and cant find the year marked anywhere. how does one tell the year? Just about to start restoring it, dont wanna end up getting the wrong parts.

Hi Ironsights

Honda changed their numbering in 1965 and used a continuous series from then till end of production. e3Steve has been collating information from owners to try and break this series up into years. You bike is post- 1965, I think.

Take a look at the wire harness under the tank. There should be a white label which details its date of manufacture. Usually a good guide for the date of the machine if unmolested.

Took a look, it's a 1966. The other number on the tag is, D724852 B. Not sure if that's any use for his documentation, but there it is.

Hi y'all,
I just bought a Superhawk from a former neighbor, who finally let it go after 15 years worth of begging. He bought it in 1974, the title shows it as a 1970, which I know is incorrect. Ive been trying out to figure out which year it really is. It has a later model guage, chrome fenders, the seat with the up-turned front. I think the side cover were also chrome at one time, he painted them silver. The no. on the chassis is CB77-1052779 and the engine no. is CB77E-1052773.
It reads just over 5K on the odometer, but I don't know if its the original. My neighbor never rode it much, it mostly just sat in his garage.
