speedo/tach lube?

Post by maia » Tue Jul 19, 2011 9:31 pm

Just got my 305 up and running and it appears (I could be wrong ) that the tach is reading a little optimistically and wondered if those things require lubrication after sitting in a carport for 25 years. Thanks.

Hi, what I normally do if necessary is remove the cable assembly, remove the cable from the tube, thoroughly clean the cable (gas works for this). Then fill the tube halfway with some solvent. Slosh the solvent (gas works if you don't have anything else) around while plugging both ends. Empty the tube, repeat if necessary. Then dry it really well with compressed air. Then while feeding the cable back into it I spray dry graphite on the cable coating it thoroughly. Reinstall and ride.

Some say to use just oil, I like the graphite.

Thanks for the info , the cable is new, I was inquiring about the mechanisim in the tach itself and if it requires any lubrication.
