strait pipes

Post by dlobby12 » Sat Jul 16, 2011 7:02 pm

If I run strait pipes will I lose power due to lack of compression.
If so, what can I do to solve this?
Thanks Mates.

Hey Lobby,
No doubt there will be some negative effect on performance and I'm sure there are some here, Ed, Brewsky, Davo and more who can expound on that. The sooner the better with regards to your pipes as your neighbors will be somewhat annoyed with the loud straights after a while. What to do? Well, there at least two options that have been covered here in the forum. Original baffles are nearly extinct. Search it out and you'll find the ideas already mentioned in good detail. But keep an eye out as you never know what will come up here in the forum classifieds, or on fleabay.
Did I read your location as Monrovia? As in California? As like off the 210?

Yes, you will lose power due to lack of back pressure. VW exhaust tips are a good option. You can remove the baffles from them, and stick them in your pipes, it it's a CL. What model do you have?

Thanks Mike, the bikes not as loud as you might think, but I can feel a loss in power.
I heard somewhere that you can pack the pipes with steel wool to quiet them.
I might try that until something better comes along.
yea Monrovia is right off the 210 between Arcadia and Glendora.

The bike is a ca77, so the VW tips won't work. Thanks anyway for the advice Daveo Ill keep looking for another alternative.

no idea how good they are, but ebay has tons of aftermarket pipes for what seems like not bad prices.
