been lurking a while cause I picked up a cl72 about a month ago. needs alot of work but no big deal I have done every thing from bsa's to ducatis and h2 triples, I ran across this bucket of bolts and I had to have it. It appears to be alot of different years frame and engine are a match cl72e 317 5xx and the engine is a few #'s away, figure about a 1963, the forks are alloy with steel axle caps, headlite and ears are either red or orange painted over with black, wire harness says 1967,the stock rims have the larger brake drums f/r , Rear fender looks to be the more full 65 type, the engine wasnt to bad inside main problem is the last guy that worked on it, I can deal with the mismatchs cause Iam doing it up as mine was back in 1970, bates solo seat and pad with a set of turn out drag pipes, I have seen alot of talent on this website so yes Iam going to tap into it..LOL.. but serious, I do appericate any and all help and comments Thanks

Welcome to the forum! The numbers are indeed for a 63. Sounds like it had a lot of "upgrades" throughout it's life, not at all uncommon! I just completed a biuld of a CL72 for a friend that had one in high school, in 1964. We built a Super Scrambler, CB77 engine in a CL72 frame. It's in his hands now, and he's putting some finshing touches on it!

Thanks for the welcome. I see your in the bay area, I lived in ElSobrate, just across the bridge from you, I worked at a place in Richmond called Recycle Motor Cycle Salvage. on and off for about 7-8 years. I was wondering if any body knows if the steel fork axles caps where on any of the later alloy forks or are they from another bike all together. The forks look like they are cl forks, from some year???

I remember the place well! The 66-67 CL77s used the alloy slider forks with steel axle caps. Post some pics when you get a chance!
