Wanted: CB77 Parts

Post by smithenhiven » Mon Dec 04, 2006 11:43 am

I'm going to keep a running list of parts I need for my 1964 CB77 restoration.

So far, I need the following:

Side covers,
Ignition Coils,
Entire front fork/shocks assembly,
Tank Chrome, with rubber and badges,
Tool Box unit,
Foot peg brackets,
Rear shocks,
Drive Chain.

If you have any/all of these parts, please let me know by either posting in this thread, or email me at smithenhiven@hotmail.com

Thanks,
Jason.

Jason, we're in similar spots with missing parts on our projects. I imagine that you are also watching Ebay - I saw a set of tank covers/pads on there today. Almost every part of the bike shows up there from time to time. You have to be disciplined to avoid overpaying. I have lost a bunch of auctions, but also just picked up an entire front end for $81 including shipping. You can also find many important parts from Ohio Cycle (www.ohiocycle.com) including good condition used parts. Their online inventory list is updated monthly, and you also want to check all three sections: NOS, Used, and Aftermarket. Not very user friendly but they are very efficient and extremely knowledgeable about our bikes. You do want to have done your research with the parts manual because they do everything by part number. As you may know, many parts changed over the years and are not interchangeable.

I have a fork top bridge (with handlebar clamps and bolts) that doesn't fit my triple tree - I bought it on Ebay and believe it is for the later model CB77s. I will have an extra set of forks and steering stem, but they are from the earlier model. Email me if you are interested in any of these. I just remembered, I also saw a (claimed by seller) complete front end on Ebay this morning.

Bob,

Yes, I had seen the ebay auction for the "complete front end". I've got that in my watch list actually. But if you've got front end parts for sale, let me know your asking price, I'd be interested in buying them off you.

I know what you mean about overpaying for things, I seen a NOS front fender sell for close to $500 on there the other day, that's more than I paid for my bike. I guess front fenders are disirable parts, even a used one in not so good of condition went for over $150. I guess you gotta pay to play.

And thanks for the link the the ohiocycle website, I'm going to see what they've got as well.

Jason.

Nothing trully againt you Jason.
Just another enlightened person that has joined the Vintage Bike Parts Hunt!
There are several parts for the CB/CL72/77 bikes that can/will cost more that what one may pay for a bike.
Now figure why the bike doesn't have the part and why it is costly.
We broke/bent them over the years.
Honda/other makers don't make the parts now!
Now some 40+ years later someone buys one of these desirable bikes that only needs (seat/bars/chain guard/speedo/front fender/rear fender/engine parts/tires) and they compare the parts cost to the price they paid for the bike that needs all these parts.
I sometimes wonder what folks think when they buy a desirable to them (40 years old) bike that is more gone than there about the cost of parts to get it RESTORED.
Most folks really want a SHOW BIKE for cheap than actually admit it!
I've been contacted by MANY folks that are VERY SURPRISED at the cost of those hard to find/get parts cause "I only paid $XXX for the bike.
Just my attitude coming out after so many folks want HARD TO FIND/RARE parts for less than they paid for the POS thay now have. . .............................emo

Loud Mouse, no offense takin. I know some parts are going to cost more than others, and some parts more than what some bikes will cost. I guess that's why I got such a good deal on my CB77, it was missing all the parts that made it worth anything, lol.

I'm just glad that parts for these bikes are actually available, be it NOS, used, aftermarket. With my 64 S600 restoration, I spend months trying to find something as basic as a fuse box cover, or license plate frame, and when it does come up for sale, you end up speding hundres of dollars on it.

The last drive chain I bought was from JC whitney. It was about $20 or so and seems just fine. It's just a regular O ring chain (not sealed) but will work fine for the few miles I'll put on the this bike a year. I bought one from my local Honda dealer a few years ago for $60 - which was way too much for a non-sealed O ring chain.
