south east asia trip

Just curious. How many of you gents out there had your 305 riding experience cut short by an invitation from Uncle Sam to take a trip to south east asia back in the sixties? I bought my scrambler in 66 and it got put away Jan.67 .Broke it out 3 1/2 years later but got married shortly after and put away until now..........

That pretty much sums it up. Road it for about a year and then storage in 1972.

The bike just kept following me all of these years and apparently now is the time to get my 1966 CL 77 back on the road.

I hadn't made that connection, but that's essentially what happened. I was dropping out of college (1967), knew I'd get drafted, so I joined the U.S. Coast Guard. My 1963 (I think) CA77 got parked in the barn. It got sold, along with my 57 Ford and 58 Pontiac Star Chief, while I was on active duty. Only took me 43 years to replace it.

I thought there might have been a few more of us with this history. It was an interesting thread which went no where.

I literally never looked at my CL77 until a few years ago after I parked it for deployment and really never thought about it until now.

Thanks for suggesting the thread anyway.

Your right George> I thought most would have the same type story. I would have much rathered stayed at home,rode my bike and played with the young ladies.

My first was a 125 Benley while at Iwakuni, Japan in 1958. Bought a new C72 in '59 and converted it to C77. Yamaha came out with a 250 twin that was fast as stink! Had first Super Hawk in 1962 same place. The CLs came out shortly thereafter. Saw, but had no chance to ride, a four cylinder 250cc tube framed Factory Racer in 1963 and all the little Toyopets that seemed to weigh 25 lbs wet and literally screamed. Too many Hondas since to count. Down to a CL77 prohect, CB750 Cammer and a '68 Suzuki 200cc 28HP twin with high pipes. Favorite was a CB92 Supersport converted to a 150cc. Had the race kit and was fast for its day when I weighed a svelt 145lbs.
