any suggestions as to the concerns on the first page?

Remove the left side cover. There should be a door behind the battery (if it's still there) that covers the air cleaner. There's only one carb. Remove the silver carb cover to see more of the carb.

what would be the proper way to clean the air filter?

Have you confirmed good spark at both plugs at this time? That is your starting point.

I would remove it , throw it away, and replace it. They are still available.

Be very careful when you remove the rubber intake tube from it as they are prone to disintegrating from age. You can find re pops, but they are a little pricey. I would spray it good with WD40 and heat it up with a hair dryer before removing.

No Left Side Spark

Post by Dennis42 » Sun May 22, 2011 11:37 am

>>cause me to think ya aren't firing on the left side.
Have ya checked the plug for spark?

Just pulled my (original owner) 44-year old Dream out of 3-yr storage. New gas, and it started -- except no left spark. Easiest way to tell is that the left pipe stays cold. My fix was as simple as cleaning the plug thoroughly and re-gapping it (it was a tiny bit wide). Now starts on one kick and still runs like a Dream.
