New 66' Dream Owner w/ a Few Questions! Please help!

Post by Ehonda » Thu May 19, 2011 9:36 pm

I recently just bought a 66' Dream CL77, and I cannot tell you how excited I am to FINALLY have one of these bikes! People are surprised I got this because I am only 22, however, my grandpa had one in Vietnam and it has some sentimental value to me. She starts right up and runs ok at the moment and is completely stock. Just a couple issues that I would like to ask you seasoned vets about...

1: When the bike is on and in neutral, it will run for 30-40 seconds before it cuts out. Possible issues?
My Thought: Something is happening with the fuel, because it runs good when in driving. Carb?

2: Unless I am going down a hill, I can only top out at 35-37 mph. I know that this bike is capable of going 55-60 mph. Possible issues?
My Thought: I think that this might be an issue that is resulting from the first concern, would this be also a carb issue?

3: I noticed today while I was going along the Mississippi (I live in St. Paul) after I got home after running it for about 30 min that very dark gas was leaking out of the left muffler. Possible issue?
My Thought: Would that be another carb issue? Possibly a float that is leaking? Or gunk that is just in there?

Someone told me that I could just put a little bit of Sea Foam in it and run it to semi-clean it.. Thoughts?

I also have a restorer help me clean the carb on Wed.

I really do appreciate your guys help on these issues. I know that it might get repetitive answering questions but I want to get answers from guys that know. Please just reply or PM me..

Congratulations on owning a 305. Do you have a Dream (CA77) or a Scrambler (CL77)? Please put your location on your profile so we know where you are. There just might be a member close by!

All of your descriptions cause me to think ya aren't firing on the left side.
Have ya checked the plug for spark?
Maybe a stuck open float on that side. .............lm

I've checked both spark plugs, there is no discoloration... Should be there something else I should be looking at when looking at the spark plugs?

Sea Foam

Any thoughts about the Sea Foam? I have read and also know that this stuff works awesome for cars and small motors. I played college football and the stadium is also named Sea Foam Stadium.. Haha.
