Rob same here. I know we both enjoy our freedoms as Americans. Our views are probably not as far apart as it sounds, I've only been out of the country one time and being close to my age you know when and where.
I grew up listening to my elders talk about how the women did all the preparing of food, cooking, raising the kids, collecting firewood etc. All the men had to do was hunt, fish and and protect the camp. White man came along with all his laws thinking he could improve on that. Now that was meant to be humorous.
Beer sounds great. I'll provide the Memphis style BBQ. It might not get you to understand my view on straight pipes but we will both leave agreeing on the BBQ.

...Every once in a while I have been fortunate to ride with some visitors on Norton's, Kaw triples and RD yamahas while on my S 90 or X6 ...

Guy I know had an X6 for sale and I was looking at it and talking about how fast this bike was compared to what was out there back then. He said he and his buddies rode older BSAs and Triumphs and one of the guys bought an X6. From that point on, all they all got to smell 2-stroke exhaust because none of them could get past that X6. My friend ended up getting a new Norton because he was tired of smelling that exhaust.

That's a great bike. Never bought that one because it was just too rough. But always looking for the right one.

Straight pipes with inserts. Half the OEM baffle, and add one each VW tip baffle which made for a decent not too loud sound. I prefer the straight look as opposed to the 2 in 1. Seems we hit a curb back there...everyone OK?

i have in the main pipes, some funny baffles look like staggered triangles.
66 CL77 Late.
i then found these nice end pipes that fit the ends of mains that have a 90degree end. outward
with cute tiny internal bullet (falls out) glass packs , free flows)
from JC whitney, usually i avoid them with 45years of bad experience but these are great. 1965 to present.
i too had and S90 (1965) and pushrod 50 and my folks didnt like CL77. so now I do as i please.
my 50cc was in a basket. (my first ground up)
I delivered news papers with S90, fast as can be.

VW tips?
is that not 1-3/8 OD and ours is 1.5" O D?
how is that going to work?
the leading edge end is full up too, on the OEM VW. TIPS?

yes me too , always a bike nut, had like 50 in 50 years. (not one HARLEY ,LOL)

now my X6 , circa 1965, 67photo (for $50 not running) i buy everything that way,.

The after market VW tip is very inexpensive, and the baffle insert is held in place with just a small spot weld. Grind off the weld and the baffle slides out. Due to it's length, it fit snuggly into the stock exhaust and is held in place at the last return sweep bend of the pipe, then the original (half) baffle is locked in with the small screw and nut. Learned that here on the forum and it worked.
