key broken in ignition

Post by jbills » Fri May 06, 2011 1:09 pm

I snapped the key off in the ignition switch of my CL77 a few weeks ago. Any ideas on how to get the broken piece out?

Thanks

Just a thought: drill a tiny hole straight into the stuck piece at a 45-angle for about 1/2-3/4" deep. Stick a sharp object into the hole (ice-pick) and try to pry it out at an angle. Or maybe put some super glue on the end of the sharp object and let it set ... dunno ... brainstorming.

Can you get to it if you take the switch assembly apart?

KEY EXTRACTION OLD SCHOOL STYLE

I watched a locksmith perform this feat by using a brocken hacksaw blade. He slid the blade in along side the broken key and pulled the broken key right out. Be sure to slide the blade in with the grain so it bites in when you pull it.

I've been succesful using two scribes, one on each side of the key.
