Handlebars

Post by Hippykid » Sun Apr 10, 2011 3:00 pm

So Im having a time deciding what handlebars to put on this bike...The original bars were fubared
and unusable-I wanted a beach cruiser but not...I wonder what other bars have been used for this
bike and some rider feedback...I am leaning on a set of Flanders police bars in the 7/8 drilled
size but am up for any suggestions....

If you are going to spend any time riding the bike, bars are, in my opinion, the most important choice you will make for comfort. And it depends on your personal fit and preference.

There are many different rise, pullback and angle bars that would work, you just need to find what you like.

Sit on the bike and stretch your arms out where you feel comfortable, and measure your hands position relative to the clamp and go from there.

You can lean forward for more handling feel, sit straight up for best long distance comfort, or lean back for short term relaxation.

There are suppliers who show the bar specs to match your requirements.

Living here at the edge of the world means not much for hands on, hold the bars, ect so we are
used to ordering and hoping that they work....the things we give up to live rurally..wrench on..

I know exactly what your saying Hippykid. One thing that really bugs me about the Dream is those lame original handle bars. Another is the square headlight. I think any vintage bike should have a round one. I'm restoring my '63 CA77 and ordered some drag bars (7/8) and need to fit them still. I kind of think they might be a bit too low. I just fit on some lower euro bars that I got from JCWhitney onto my '73 CL350 and I'm super stoked about it. They have such a better feel than the original high rise bars. I might get another set for the dream because I like them so much. Check out JCWhitney for the handlebars dude. Super good deal. I think those euro bars were only like $23. I have seen bars just like them on other dream pics online and they look nice. Not too bendy and high like the originals...yuk.

Well I went ahead and ordered a set of the Flanders police style bars in the 7/8 pre drilled
style...I am purchasing a 65 CL77 throttle pull from my bud Kevin at Scrambler cycle as it
doesnt require the internally pulled throttle like the stock dream did...After I install the bars
then I will know how long of cables I need....Kevin carries alot of stuff for alot of different bikes
and I get the impression that he has done plenty of restos so dont hesitate to call him to pick
his brain or to order stuff...I think he really likes to talk bikes at 2 oclock in the morn...jus kiddin

Here's those pics of my CL350 with the euro bars from JCWhitney. I think they are Bikemaster brand.
