primary drive sprocket and oil filter questions
1967 SuperHawk CB77. 1. The lock washer on the primary drive sprocket shaft has a notch that appears to fit nothing and looks like it does nothing. There arent any cogs or impressions that can fit into the notch. How does this lock washer actually work? Is it just by compression alone? How tight must the locknut with the 4-slots be. I can smack it with a hammer and drift, and tighten it some. Is that enough? Also, in my book (Clymer), it "appears" to show the oil filter rotor washer goes between the filter and the engine body on the CL77, but between the filter and stopper pin on my CB77 engine. The CB77 illustration shows no washer between the filter and the engine body. Which is correct for my CB77? I hope this makes sense and thanks for any info..Ron

Seeing the tab bent on the lock washer makes a lot of sense now. Funny that the tab was not bent when the washer came off. And the washer on the filter is like the book shows. Thanks for clearing both of these issues up. The only issue now is how tight the lock nut has to be. Because it uses a lock washer and does not use a conventional wrench, I would guess that it don't have to be too tight. But here too, I want to get it right the first time and appreciate any info you have. Thanks again..Ron..
