Do I need to find a replacement upper case?

I completed my engine tear down and was soda blasting the upper case and after the layers of grease were gone I noticed something was missing/broken. An anchor or hanger is broken off. What is its purpose? Need a new upper case? Engine was in pieces when I received it.

The piece that is missing has no function that I am aware of.

If that's a Dream engine that's where the right side carb cover attaches with a screw.

Yes its a 64 CA77 Dream. Never seeing the bike together, can I get buy with out it, mod it, or get a new case?

Looking at bikebandits OEM parts is that what is called a shield, there is a right and left? ANybody got a close up of theirs?

The carb covers are connected together by a spring loaded knob and the left side locks into the right side. The right side also has a small screw to hold it in place. Don't know whether you can get by without it or not.

Been studying some pics, yep that what its for, the shield (for carb) bolts to that. Thinking I could fashion one out of some epoxy pudy and glue it with jb weld or something. How does the case take to alum welding?
