CA77 305 Oil Pump Pin QuestionCA77 305 Oil Pump Pin QuestionHi, I am new to the Forum. I recently acquired a Dream (1963 CA77) that I plan to restore. I have started looking at the engine - bore looks to be in good shape and after cleaning slime from transmission and clutch, everything seems to be in working order.
My Question; From parts diagrams, I can see that the oil pump/filter shaft has a pin that locks the shaft to the left crankcase cover to prevent it from turning. This pin is missing. I have not been able to find one on ebay and Ohio cycle does not list the part number (15495-259-000). From the parts function, it looks like any screw or shaft that fits snuggly would work. Does anyone have any experience or comments on this pin?
Re: CA77 305 Oil Pump Pin QuestionDid ya find the pin you needed?. ....lm
Re: Pin foundThose things are easily lost!
The pin allows the shaft to stay inline and not rotate and the washer keeps the oil filter from welding itself to the cover. Both are "Must Be There" parts. . .............lm
RIDE IT DON'T HIDE IT!
Misnomer confusion. And it happens a lot here. The pump is in the sump. The bit on the side is a centrifugal filter / separator / slinger. And Ed is always right, let me tell you. I'm the twat who thought the bearing washer went between the filter and the crankcase, until Ed put me right with a little slap (after which I re-read my manuals). And it can make a right mess if the washer isn't on the outside, where it should be.
