Are after market valves and standard size rings available?Let's assume for a moment that Apex valves are made of the wrong material or were not correctly heat treated and they are defective.
Apex are sourcing them from a valve supplier. Do we happen to know who they get their valves from and who manufactures the valves that anyone else is selling? Unless the valves are coming from Kibblewhite or Manley, they are coming from an overseas supplier. Some are great and some not so good. Chinese get a bad rap for some of their stuff, but their valves don't usually break up at low speed running. It's possible that MBell's valves came from a bad batch. If someone has an APEX valve they don't need, it would be nice to test it and compare it to a stock valve and see what's going on. I agree, i'm not saying that mbell's info is not accurate i'm just looking for other opinions. If they are generally speaking a good valve then they can be had at about 1/4 of the price of NOS. I hate to have one persons experience determine what i buy but so far this Mbell's story is all i have to go by. I think teazer has some good points.
Brian I have used Tom's valves in three engines over the last few years. I did have a failure in a dream engine due to overrevving it on a missed shift on the freeway. otherwise no problems, but anymore, considering the time/cost of getting inside these engines I think I would go another direction next time. the last couple heads I have done I just went thru my parts looking for good valves to use, but I'm running out of that stuff.
Thanks Randy
