BTW, just for general reference, here's what the '61 bracket looks like that came off the seat I have at the moment. You can see that the bracket is not as long in the hat area as the 62+

I'm not sure about other seats, but I'm quite sure the cover that was on mine was original. I just wanted to point out that there is piping on the original cover. One between the two inserts. And another at the rear. I don't know if that was a 61 only thing or not, but I noticed that the one on eBay didn't have it. Refer to the pics in my threads.
I noticed a number of unique things on your 61 seat as oppose to the others. It looks like they streamlined the production as things went along. Your tack strip is even unique as it has extra tabs that fold over the material after they are tacked down. Since the covers are not mass produced, I can make them any way desired. I imagine that i'll be replicating the OEM for the most part. However, if anyone should want to get creative, the cover can be made with other colors of vinyl, leather, or have a unique center section. For those that are getting an OEM look, the vinyl will be matched as close as possible to the OEM and will be marine grade. I haven't made an order yet for that as it arrives the next day. The foam used on the inside will more than likely be a closed cell type to avoid moisture and mildew problems. I'm still waiting on a few samples to get in so I can check for density, but I like to use poron as it's super resilient and will not lose it's shape or get permanent dents over repeated use. The center section will be made with Alcantara. This is the closest modern day equivalent of what was used in the center of the OEM seat. Alcantara is stain and fade resistant. It's also mostly made of polyester so it holds up to the elements well. We clean glue stains off with lacquer thinner so I would guess it will hold up to gasoline just fine as well. The original was heat pressed with the underlying foam to make the pleats that you see in the pictures. Heat pressing does not work with Alcantara, but I will be replicating the look as close as possible with some tricks I have up my sleeve. If anybody ordering a seat wants a sample of either the vinyl or the Alcantara, feel free to let me know and I can shoot one over to you. So far everyone that's mentioned interest has give their material deposits so everything is rolling steadily along. The brackets for the seat will be made tomorrow and should hopefully be here next week. Pending an approval on the seat mold, I will be test fitting the brackets next week and making any final adjustments if needed. They will be then sent to the powder coater for a coat of semi-gloss black. With luck, I should have a final product in about three weeks. However, 56_Oval's will be done before then as I don't have to wait for his seat to get done obviously. I do have to put it back together properly for him and reupholster it. Isiah, you haven't asked, but I'll put a new bracket on the rear of your seat so you can fit it on your bike properly since you don't have a 61 frame.
The only piping on my seat is in 2 places, one piece where the backrest piece of suede meets the flat "sit your butt down" piece of suede and the other is on the radius of the backrest piece of suede. I also have the 2 sets of tabs like on 56oval's. I believe mine to be an early to mid 60's issue because there is no part number or model number stamped in white paint on the bottom of my pan.
