Miss on left cylinder

Post by Goodbrew » Wed Feb 02, 2011 5:59 am

Hi All
I have had an issue here for a long time with my CL72, and have put up with it as it really isnt too serious. I have ben investigating of late out of curiosity to try and find what is accually happening.
When the tank level gets low - maybe 1/4 left - the left hand cylinder starts to miss.

I havent worried as its a good way to notice I'm running low:)
Lately with a bit of time on my hands I thought this is a bit odd really as the fuel should be running into both carbs at the same rate even if LH is a bit further away,
I have cleaned pet cock and carbs and not found anything.

I noticed today that by taking the hose feeding the LH carb off at the petcock that a few air bubbles escaped and then the bike restarted would run fine for maybe 10 minutes before running out of fuel missing again.
I can loosen the hose and bingo away it goes again!

I'm thinking the pet cock is OK as fuel runs smoothly without the hose on.
So it has to be an issue inside the carb.

With a full tank it isnt noticeable extra head of pressure I guess?

Could the carb bowl be not vented properly and therby not let the fuel flow in the bowl ?
This seems a bit weird as I doubt they are well sealed -- Any thoughts??

Problem solved !
I found the bowl vent, tiny hole leading to the small brass tube on the outside of the carby was blocked,
finished with emo's tune up and it's running better than ever.

Good experience and info for the rest of us, here. Sorry no-one responded; I've only just found this topic, myself. Perhaps February is a busy month with other tasks for many of us!
