Found a tooth!Upside downBikedoctor, I get a chuckle just thinking about that. I'd love to see a person(or a picture of) working on that tranny with the bike upside down:)..............................D
So far ... got engine on bench, flipped over. I'm glad I'm going through this because ...
There seemed to be an inordinate amount of oily crud all over the bottom of the engine trailing back to Boston. Looks like PO removed 2 of the 14mm nuts from the lower pan and installed some steel brackets to use as rests or supports. Horrid idea! Those brackets rounded the faces of the bosses where the washers and nuts rest causing (my guess) oil leaks. To add misery to injury ... the stud ends look slightly bent and a bunch of threads are munged up ... I'll know more tomorrow when I crack the case. I'm going to have to replace 2 studs and have a machinist face off the rounded surfaces and replace 2 studs. Joy! Maybe I can do it myself using a hand file and machinist dye to even off the high spots ... tbd Dana

.. argh! Got all the 10mm bolts and 14mm nuts off including the 2 from the top and I still can't get the cases apart. They separate about 1/4" then it feels like something metallic is hitting (near the dynamo side) and they wont separate any more.
I didn't remove the dynamo rotor, but everything else is off. Any thoughts before I get out the chain saw? Dana
