Replacemnt hardware (screws, bolts, nuts, washers)

Post by rpr851r » Tue Nov 09, 2010 2:18 pm

Hello all,
I am starting the process of getting a CL77 basket case together and have a question about general hardware (screws, bolts, washers). Is the hardware you can currently buy from Honda or other suppliers (Ohio Honda) look the same as the original (same shape heads on the cross screws, same thickness on the nuts and washers, ect)? From looking at my pile I can guarantee that I will need a bunch of 6mm and 8mm general hardware. My goal is to have the hardware that shows look period correct.

Thanks,
Rich

I find mcmaster.com to be the best source for hard to find screws/bolts/nuts. If you want something that's more bike specific, check this site out: http://www.mginproducts.com/screw%20kits.htm

To close the loop on this thread and hopefully prevent the next guy from making the same mistake, I bought a bunch of hardware from a Honda dealer based on part numbers in the catalog. The 6mm bolts were the same as were on the bike except the heads on the new bolts have markings on them which I can remove. The new Honda 8mm and 10mm bolts also have markings on the heads but in addition to that, have smaller heads than original hardware. I probably will buy correct replacements for the mm and 10mm bolts from Nick at Ohio Cycle.

I have my bolts re-plated in cadnium, or more recently have been re-plating with zinc at home. Either way you save a lot of money buying bolts, and getting the wrong stuff.

Hi Davo,
I have a tub full of hardware going to the plater soon but I am missing a bunch of stuff. The bike is a real basket case and as I sort out parts I am finding that the baskets don't have everything I need. Also some of the hardware is buggered beyond being useable.
