cam chain instillation

Post by yellow60 » Sun Jan 09, 2011 12:35 pm

I trying to put back together my 65 honda dream CA77 after rebuilding due to setting for years and being seized up. I am trying to put it back together an am unsure how to put the timing chain back on in the correct location. I have rebuild many 2 stroke motors but have never attempted a 4 stroke.
Any help would be great.

If I'm not mistaken, you set the crank at T with the right side piston at TDC. On the cam, you will see a flat spot on the chain sprocket (you'll know it when you see it), it needs to be flat with the head, and the line on the points cam will also be at 12 o'clock. When these things are correct, go ahead and install the chain. I'm sure LM will chime in here soon and let you know for sure.

You are correct and at the sprocket ya will see a "o" or a "." which is above the flat area and that is where ya install the master link. ........lm
