cb77 top speed?

Post by waynew » Mon Dec 27, 2010 8:32 am

First off, i hope everyone had a great Christmas. My qustion centers around the top speed of my cb77. It seems per my speedo & GPS, that i'm topping out at 67 mph (about 5,800rpm). I have two things that my be related/unrelated: (1) while cold my clutch seems to stick in second gear but after about 3 miles there is no problem (2) at FULL throtle in 4th gear, the bike seems to pick-up a bit of speed when i back-off the throtle just a bit. what should my top speed be? as always, your advice is appreciated!

There is a long thread here about top speed. The manual I think listed it at around 100mph although it's tough to get there. I'm pretty sure most people don't have problems getting to at least 80 though. I cruise around 65 with power to spare.

at 58000rpm, you still have a ways to go before you top out.

Might be a problem with your fuel flow. I would clean out the carbs and make sure the jets are clear.

Waynew, if your bike picks up when you back off the throttle it's running too rich.Try doing a full tilt tune up, including a carb overhaul...........................D

one thing that i did not mention was once i have ridden for awhile, the engine revs at 2,000 rpm at idle as opposed to around 1,200rpm (with the choke off) when i'm going through the warm-up process. This seems to be more common in colder weather than during the hot summers we have here in GA. at any rate, thanks for the tips guys.
