Trick to getting rotor back on?

Post by bpdinse » Sat Dec 18, 2010 8:39 pm

Yeah - I'm green at this. I searched the forums after looking through B. Silver's guide - couldn't find info on it. As I can't find it, it must be so simple and that means it is me... well, I am okay with sounding stupid.

So I am trying to get the rotor back on. The three rollers in the starting clutch are forced outward by springs. That is keeping me from getting the rotor w/starting clutch assembly onto the starting sprocket (which is on the shaft). I even tried to get the starting sprocket onto the back of the rotor while sitting on the bench before putting it on the shaft just to see if I could do it. I could not do it. Even if I could do it on the bench that way, I know I can't then put it on the shaft because I need the key installed on the shaft.

Can someone kindly clue me into the method of assembly of the rotor onto the shaft/starting sprocket?

Much appreciated!!
Brian

Brian, if I remember correctly, you can push the rotor on by hand, and push / spin the starter sprocket and get it to go in the rollers, or turn the rotor itself, spark plugs out of course.

That did it - thanks!!

I don't kow why I didn't at least try something like that. I just rotated the rotor as you said while pushing it onto the shaft/starter sprocket, Davo, and the rollers went up over the edge of the starter sprocket and the rotor slid the rest of the way on.

I appreciate the help!
