I use the wire wheel to remove gasket material. ............lm

Well ... that last part was mostly tongue in cheek :) I don't use the wire wheel as a degreaser ... usually. I'll use it on ferrous metals lightly to remove scale but not if the part is visible because I do know that the wheel will pit softer or equally hard metals.

Actually I do like to use it lightly on chrome followed by 0000 steel wool.

That being said, I have used it on Aluminum parts (with a deft, feather touch) if I plan on doing more finish sanding and/or paint, or the part is internal (the hidden part of fork lowers eg.)

Sorry if I mislead anyone. I sometimes post with jest.

I just finished a couple of carb bodies on the wire wheel. It's all in the touch. Just don't go near one with loose clothes. Those things can bite

Did not mean to give the impression that wire wheels have no use or value. I used them regularly myself. Was just trying to avoid some newb getting the wrong impression. I'm sure we've all seen the victims of wire wheels in the wrong hands. I think the worst for me was a 1st generation, low serial number, US marked Colt Single Action Army that was wire brushed from stem to stern. Very sad to see.

regards,
Rob
