re-chroming?re-chroming?hi fellas
i have the original set of mufflers for my 68 ca77 dream. i was wondering if these can be re-chromed? they are not dented or dinged, but have minor surface rust. also, i wanted to re-chrome my tank covers. does anyone have any ideas as to how much this would cost, and if it can in fact be done? thanks for any help in advance!
Re: re-chroming?Hi, anything you want can be done assuming you want to pay. The mufflers will have to be treated to remove rust and debris. Usually a chemical bath of sorts. Chroming is pretty straight forward and there are shops all over the world. Just type in the name of your state and "chrome shop" in google to see if there are any close by. Most competent shops can rechrome and repair any piece. Prices vary on how much work they have to do to the part so you'll be hard pressed to find a price list anywhere. However, expect to pay a few hundred dollars to get a batch going. Parts like the side panels can go from $65 each to over $150 depending on their condition when the shop gets it. That's something the shop you choose will have to update you with. Hope that helps. H;save your energy and skip the mufflers. most shops won't touch them because of how contaminated they are. naval jelly/bronze wool/elbow grease will do wonders. I have a pair of gas tank covers fresh from the chrome shop that are yours for $175. you can't do yours for that. plus shipping of course.
Thanks Randy
