I thought I'd post some pics of the bike, but I haven't had a chance to take any yet. When I do, I'll probably start another thread in the restoration forum. I do have some pics of the engine I'm getting as soon as I can find cheap transport. It appears to be a correct CB77 engine with the correct cover and kicker. The engine that came in the bike has a CB77 head, so I'll use the carbs and other parts off of it.

So I started taking the CA engine apart for shits and giggles and found that the left cylinder rings were rusted to the bore wall. I'm not worried about the condition of the pistons considering they are probably junk anyway, but how do I get it out? I've run across this before when rebuilding VW or Vespa engines, but I've always been able to hammer it out with a soft blow hammer or a piece of wood. This one doesn't want to budge and I don't want to cut the connecting rod.

By the way, If anyone is interested in any parts from this engine, I will give you guys first crack before they go on Ebay. I've read that the CA gears are a little different from the CB.

I beat the hell out of mine to get it apart also.

I always thought if I had to do it again and didn't want to save the piston, i'd drill a lot of holes in the top of the piston and break it apart with a hammer and chisel.

Hope I never have to though.

There are a few different methods I've seen here. First it to soak the piston in PB Blaster or another type of rusty bolt loosening spray. You might try soaking the head in a rust remover as well. Evapo-Rust is a popular one. Going to a farm supply or hardware store, you can get Milkstone Remover which is just phosphoric acid. Works like a charm in cleaning the thing up as well.

the only thing I did was to fill the cylinder with wd40. I guess it doesn't matter though. I ended up selling the whole engine to a guy in Arizona who is working on a '64 Dream. It works out for me considering I spent the same amount on the CB engine that will be delivered tomorrow.

If it makes you feel better, the engine that was on the superhawk parts bike I just bought had the pistons rusted to the walls. Lots of crap in there and missing bolts inside the engine. Probably rattling around in the gears until it died.
