need info on engine

Post by ironangel » Wed Nov 17, 2010 3:02 am

Just took my 1961 ca 77 out of mothballs after over 20+ years to do a restore.I purchased the bike in 1973 (would you believe $80.00 with an extra engine).only thing missing is the chain guard.
What I would like is info on the engine that was in the bike when I first got it.ca77 E 110699 What is the cylinder shaped casting over the tranny area? pic below Thanks ...JkImage

Hi,

Since it's a 1961 engine it has a crankcase breather tower. Later models have an integrated breather on the top cylinder cover. A very nice way to own a original dream.

I guess in 1973 you could do a lot more with 80 USD then nowadays ?

Jensen is correct and ya may want to look on the right side near the chain sprocket and see if the breather valve is still there.
Also from what I see this engine doesn't have the primary chain tensioner lower case.
If ya do plan on using this engine I suggest ya replace the lower case so ya can install the tensioner. ..........lm
