Thanks Jensen. Today, I was working on the bike and looking thru the new CL72 manual I got from a friend. In that manual, it actually gives standard and min diameters for both the drive and driven sprockets in the primary using 2 6mm balls to measure. The problem is, the clutch sprocket dimension measured with 6mm balls is the same as you got measuring the root diameter.

I don't understand this since the tooth counts are the same.

regards,

Rob

Hi,

Tonight I measured again, I can't stand the fact that I might seen it wrong, but I wasn't.
It is 136 mm plus 0.05 mm as the biggest diameter., sorry I can't help you further,

As stated earlier, knowing nothing about CL's, maybe they have another clutch ? (I don't think so, but you never know),

Jensen,

First thanks for re-checking, but I did not mean to imply that you were wrong. Actually I had a different thought going thru my mind at the time that did not come out in the post.

Turns out I had read the wrong primary drive sprocket dimensions in the specs. I mistakenly read the final drive counter sprocket dimensions, and could not figure out how they could be so different than what I measured. I found my mistake this morning when I looked with fresh eyes.

So here are the specs for those two sprockets. Dimensions are measured using 6mm balls in the root of each side and then measuring with a micrometer and subtracting the 12mm from the balls.

The specs given in that section are:

For the primary drive sprocket
Standard value - Teeth base circle (root diameter) 39.11-39.21mm 15 teeth
Limit of correction - Less than 38.9mm

For the mating clutch sprocket

Standard value - Teeth base circle (root diameter) 136.15-136.16mm 47 teeth
Limit of correction - Less than 135.5mm

regards,
Rob
