I do not understand how to remove the rotor

My heart goes out to the spokes on the rear wheel!

My engine was out of the bike when I removed the rotor. I put a socket wrench on the rotor bolt and gave it a good smack with a 2 lb hammer. That jarred it loose, I still have good spokes and my wife's broom handle was never touched (years ago I vowed never to touch it!)

I actually found that 'locking' the rear wheel wasn't necessary; just putting it in gear placed sufficient load on the motor for mine, the first time.

Having an assistant apply the rear brake at the same time works well, too.

The impact of smacking the spanner with your palm or, better, with a reasonably-sized hammer, doesn't present enough strain on the spoke in question to cause damage.

There is another method for a stubborn rotor bolt, of course: a few strong ty-wraps (or two hose clips), a long screwdriver and a 14mm ring spanner* -- less chance of rounding the head of the bolt than an open-ended -- and construct the entire assembly, with the ring in place on the bolt head, secure the screwdriver to the underside of the footpeg with a couple of crossed ty-wraps or turns of tape. Then navigate the gearshift into 4th, take up the slack on the rear wheel enough to place the makeshift 'power bar' under tension against the footpeg and just roll the bike off the centrestand!

Not as effective for those bikes with folding pegs, btw.....

*Assuming a long power bar and a 14mm socket isn't available

Does 'hers' have electric start? My ol' woman's is the 'chainsaw pullcord' type. Primitive, but reliable. And she stays airborn for hours without the added weight of a battery.......

OK, I believe I followed the instructions I was given. However, even with my brother sitting on the bike, in 2nd gear and him holding the brake and the rear wheel NOT moving, the crank still spins when I try to take that bolt out. Am I right that the bolt must be turned counterclockwise to get it out (i.e. it's not a reverse threaded bolt). My concern is that something is wrong with the transmission and that is why it still spins when I lock the rear wheel up and try to get that bolt off?

Give the wrench a whack with a hammer after it's turned tightly couter clockwise. That should shock it loose. Then do the same with the puller bolt.
