Honda Dream CA77 305 Speedometer Rebuild Walk-ThroughI just use something blunt that you can use to push the edge of the bezel down with. Something like a large old screwdriver use flat. The 'screwdriver' out of a 1/4 drive socket set works well. Just use it to roll the edge over then push it down flat. Slow and careful is the drill just like prizing it up.

paperslammer - Well Done!! I took apart my speedometer due to a inop odometer after I read your Walk-Thru yesterday.
I found that the main gear (the one on the main shaft under the rotating magnet) had a thread wore down so the rest of the shafts did not turn. I believe that this was caused by a combined effort of a few things. First, the horizontal shaft that mates to this drive gear has a worn oversized hole (no bushing) on the end opposite the one with the removable plate allowing the shaft to move and the gear to skip. Second, odometer numbers were very hard to turn due to the two brass clips applying excessive pressure between the bushing (yours was brass, mine is not) and the shaft the numbers ride on, and the small plastic gear inside each number wheel were also very gummed up and tight. I cleaned/lubed everything and only replaced one of the brass clips, everything turns freely now. I'm not sure why they are using two brass clips. It sure gets tight when I put the second one in. Anyhow, I still have to deal with that worn main gear. I'm thinking maybe I can drill out the worn hole for the horizontal shaft and make a brass bushing to hold it in place better to keep tighter contact with the main gear. I'll have to take a closer look at this tomorrow. Once again, thanks for the posting.... it really helped me. George Nice one! I recently did the same thing on my '73 CL350 with both speedo and tach. Currently I am doing a total restoration of a '63 dream I picked up with a seised engine. It was complete except for the speedo. I have been looking around on e-bay for one but a lot of those have a lot of miles on the odometers. My question is weather or not it is possible to reset the odometer to zero or at least to show a lesser milage. Thanks again for the awesome info. Jethro.

Yes you can reset the odo. See here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/63154743@N ... 068179860/ This one was a CB72. Once you have released the shaft you can rearrange the drums as you wish. G '60 C77 '60 C72 '62 C72 Dream '63 CL72
