cb 77 engine stuck???cb 77 engine stuck???started my cb 77 this am as i usually do letting it warm-up for awhile. Idled perfectly for several minutes then the engine suddenly quit making an almost "squeaking" sound. As I went to kick start it again, it seemed as if their was too much compression to kick it through-its as if the motors stuck. oil level was fine before starting it up this morning. I ride this bike daily and performance, compression, etc. is always great. any ideas you can share would be greatly appreciated. thanks to all.
Sounds like seizure, but could be something broke. If cam chain broke you could have crashed piston tops into valves. If oil pump quit, it might have seized. I'd drop the oil pump and see if it is functioning properly and if the oil screen is clear. Could be the pump was working, but starved for oil.
Sorry for your pain. At least it happened in the driveway at idle and not 100 miles from home at speed. regards, Rob
Re: cb 77 engine stuck???Just a couple of ideas
It may be something came loose in the clutch area and jamming things in there. Ya may want to check the starter assy. behind the rotor. Ya say it had a "squeaking" sound and that may have been one or more of the screws loose and jamming the starter sprocket. Also see if ya can turn the bolt at the rotor counterclockwise to see if it will loosen and allow ya to check things. ..........lm
I recently experienced a similar motor seizure. I'm going to post some pictures of the engine internals in another thread. But, basically I was riding along and everything seemed to be working right, but after a three mile journey the motor shrieked and died. I was in first or second gear, not going particularly fast. When I tried to restart it, the starter motor seemed unable to turn the engine over and I had similar problems with the kickstart. I told someone the story and they said I had "hot seized" it.
It's truly a pain in the ass. I just try to look at it as an opportunity to build a better motor. nander
