Dream lost it's midrange power :(

Post by ryan_siefring23 » Thu Aug 10, 2006 5:57 am

Hey everyone, i'm finally back, it's been a long summer.

Well I’ve been ridding the dream a lot this summer since I sold my CBR and I let it sit for a month and it now appears to have lost some mid range power.

The bike idles find and will hold an idle no problem. I checked the plugs, no fouling, points gap looks good. I messed with the two screws on the carb. I'm not too sure where to look next.

I'm thinking the gap on my point assembly is probably the culprit, but I’m not sure. I honestly don't have much experience with carburetors. Luckily this bike is simple. I can't imagine what has changed in the past month that it has been sitting.

Ryan-Air screw should be 3/4 to 1 1/8 turn out .But mid range could be main needle jets.Pull the slide and look for dirt in the needle jets or just drop the bowl and unscrew the main jet and recheck float level.Check for sticky float needle also. Not sure what else to tell you.

I'm not sure what the "slide" may be. Also how do i check float level?

I"m going try and use my compresson tester to see where my compressions at. What numbers should i see?

Check float by measuring from edge of carb/not the gasket, and by lifting float until needle is seated but the little spring plunger on the needle is not compressed.Should be 26mm to the bottom of float to edge.Check your timing also when your points open and make sure the points are not burnt too badly. What did your plugs look like? White, cocoa color, black?May want to get a new set of plugs.Could be many things.Condensor, coil, wires?????Clean out petcock screen.Have fun.Let us know what you find.

I just replaced all the ignition stuff this spring. Coil, condensor, wires, and plugs. I pulled the plugs last night and they were black. They weren't like that two days ago. I think it was from me fooling around with the carb settings. I will get a some new ones.

I have never cleaned the petcok screen do you have to dissassemble it do do this?

Since i was running to rich or just not combusting the fuel properly i wonder if it is my timing. I will try that area tonight.
