CL77 Kick Start Problem

Post by jon2010 » Thu Sep 16, 2010 10:55 pm

Hello everyone, I have a CL77 305cc Scrambler I'm trying to get running and the kick start mechanism is in the all the way down position. It's not stuck, because if I take the lever off, it still turns the engine over. It seems like it's indexed incorrectly. Is this something I can fix by taking off the left side cover? Any ideas or help with a next step would be much appreciated.

Jon

Jon,
First remove the right side cover and check that the spring behind the KS shaft is not broken. If not, then wind the shaft counter clockwise until you reach the ten oclock position. Make sure the shaft you are about to put it on is rotated clockwise to full stop. Now wiggle the yoke onto the shaft until the side cover is in place. When done correctly, the KS shaft will rest at 11 oclock when rotated forward. If I got this wrong I'm sure someone slap me yet again. Hope this helps ya, RW

RW, thanks for the info, I'll give it a try today.
